Kate Cross left fans scratching their heads after suffering a hilarious brain-fade during England Women's T20 victory over West Indies on Friday.

The England bowler missed an easy run-out opportunity at the non-striker's end while the hosts attempted to defend a run total of 181 in Northampton.

After receiving the ball from cover, Cross was presented with the chance to dismiss the non-striking batswoman who was some way off the safety of the crease.

The England women's bowler missed an easy run-out opportunity at the non-striker's end

Rather than striking the stumps, Cross surprisingly threw the ball to the striker's end 

But by the time the ball reached wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor the batswoman was already safe

But Lancashire's Cross inexplicably decided against running-out the non-striker and instead threw the ball to the striker's end.

But by the time the ball reached wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor, the striker was safely back in their crease.

A video of the incident later went viral on social media, but Cross later explained her missed opportunity, tweeting that the bails were already removed.

'Good to see I didn’t panic on live TV because there was a bail on the floor at my end,' she wrote.

The mishap did not matter as England went on to win by 42 runs in the second T20 clash

Fortunately for Cross her mishap didn't have much of an impact on the end result, as England successfully defending their total to win the match by 42 runs.  

Danielle Wyatt smashed 81 from 55 balls while the Windies were held to just 138 by the bowling of Cross and her team-mates Katherine Brunt and Linsey Smith - who both took two wickets for 22 runs. 

The first T20 tie was abandoned due to rain last week before England's victory on Friday. The third T20 clash takes place on Tuesday at 7pm.
